Educational TV

For some reason, as I was blogging about Mr. Wizard, the Square One Television theme song popped into my head. Then it was 3-2-1 Contact! And now I have Conjunction Junction from Schoolhouse Rock in my head. It's kind of scary how quickly all this stuff comes back to you. If I'm not careful, I may start singing the Nations of the World next. They just don't make educational television like they used to. Darn you, Blue and Dora!

Exam question: “How would you use a programmable calculator to solve the following problem…”

Student's answer: “I would go to someone who took this course before and say, ‘Dude, if you tell me the answer to Professor Post’s question, I’ll give you this programmable calculator.’”

The Mythbusters Wish They Were This Cool

Don Herbert, better known as Mr. Wizard, has died. There's a nice blog eulogy (blogulogy?) here. I remember watching Mr. Wizard as a kid, probably the same repackaging that the Unapologetic Mathematician watched on Nickelodeon. For some reason, a lesson on how ice is less dense than water, so water levels would actually drop when the ice in a glass melted stands out in my mind. Oh, man, now I'm going to start having educational television flashbacks...

Teriffic. I'm about to get killed a million miles from nowhere with a gung-ho iguana who tells me to relax.
