Linguistic Trends

From the Onion archives, Klingon Speakers Now Outnumber Navajo Speakers. Sadly, this may actually be true at this point. So, should we start using Klingon to send encoded messages in Iraq?

So... Many... Legos

This is so very, very tempting. $7 + 1 hour Metro ride (one way). Hmmm....

Would You Rather Be Over- or Under-worked?

I would rather be overworked. And I'm not the only one. I can't imagine sneaking out of work to go see a movie. Of course, I'm not high up in the hierarchy, either. Maybe higher ups can get away with that stuff.

Being bored is significantly more stressful than being overworked. When you're busy, you at least feel needed (even if you don't feel appreciated). When you're bored, there's only so much you can do at work to pass the time and you feel totally useless. There's the fear that someone will realize you're not doing anything and are therefore not needed. Overworked = job security. And that's worth quite a bit down time in terms of stress reduction.

Left Behind

Didn't this guy notice that his wife hadn't asked for a bathroom break in six hours? And the kid is 4. Shouldn't she have asked "where's mom?" at some point?

Reality Enhancement Glasses - Generation 0

I have a sudden urge to write an essay (for my fiction blog) on my idea for Reality Enhancement Glasses (mentioned here in a tangentally related essay). When I think of them, I picture something that looks about like this. Now, the Razrwire glasses are just a blue-tooth earpiece mounted on sunglasses. But make the lenses a fully functional screen that overlays information onto the real world, put a camera in between the lenses, build a GPS into the accompanying phone, add internet access, and you have the makings of Reality Enchancement Glasses. No biggie.

Basketball Makes You Stronger!

And sore. I played full court basketball for 2 hours on Sunday. I need to do this a little more regularly so it isn't such a drastic shock to my body when I do do it. I was uber-sore yesterday, particularly last night. I was still sore today, but I haven't lifted in a week, so I decided to at least try to do my sets. Amazingly, it was easier than previous times to lift. I even moved up five pounds on4 of my 6 exercises. (Shoulder press and chest press, though, are still weak. 15 pound shoulder press? It's like I'm barely strong enough to lift my own arms above my head! Can't... raise... the roof...) However, I still need to pull my leg up with my hands to cross my legs. Obviously, I wasn't working my sprinting muscles when I lifted today. Ouch.
