Oh, oh! Let's move here!
A nice new brick and mortar sign has been constructed on the main road near my apartments. At the very top of the sign, it said "A Livable Community". ?!?! A livable community? This is what you put on your $50,000 or whatever sign that people will read as they enter your neighborhood? That sounds like something you say about a run down old apartment where none of the appliances have been replaced in 40 years and the paint is peeling but the rent is cheap and the walls and roof do a decent job of keeping out the elements. It's an "it's alright, if you're not too picky" kind of statement. It's not what you tell people when you're trying to encourage them to move somewhere. I have to have read that wrong. Right?
Nope. Apparently, it's a whole campaign. In theory, there's even a map of livable communities. However, there are currently no livable communities listed. Hmmm, I guess they're still working on making communities livable. Just how sucky does your county have to be before "livable" becomes a selling point for your community? "An average of 27 cars are stolen each day in this county. We only lose about one a week in this area. And by this area, I mean this parking lot."
