Scotty Gets Beamed Up

James Doohan, who played Scotty on Star Trek, died today at the age of 85. As such, here is the quote of the day for July 20 , 2005:

"Jimmy, you're going to be Scotty long after you're dead. If I were you, I'd go with the flow."
- James Doohan's dentist

I just found out about this from Jesse's site. I followed your link to the Post, and was surprised to learn that Doohan had his right middle finger shot off! It also says he appeared at 40 Star Trek conventions. I remember back in '93 or '94 seeing a commercial saying he would be in Richmond for a show. I couldn't make it, unfortunately. Anyway, at least he doesn't have to suffer with Alzheimer's anymore.

I went to a Star Trek convention in Richmond that he appeared at when I was little (um, younger than 10 - so it wasn't the one you're refering to). It was one of only two conventions I've been to. He's the only original Star Trek cast member that I ever saw live, though I was just in the audience while he was on stage (didn't get to meet him or get an autograph). I still have two tribbles that I bought at that convention. But only one still squeaks.

I remember those Tribbles. The only Star Trek actor period that I've seen live is George Takei. It was serendipitous, he just happened to be at Kings Dominion signing autographs on a day I visited. As for the Tribble that doesn't squeak, I'm sure you know the protocol: burn its corpse and consume its ashes. No, trust me, it's tasty!

Kitsune is clearly not feeling well. Funny, but not feeling well.
