Fuel Gauge Stuck

Well, that's pretty much what caused the Discovery's launch to get scrubbed. A sensor in the fuel tank said it was empty when they had just filled it. Darn sensors.

I read orginally read that it happened the way I wrote here. Since they had already finished filling the tank when they found the sensor to be faulty, it made sense to me. But apparently, you're right. They were trying to force the sensor to read empty for test purposes, but it failed to.

ummm...why didn't they do the tests before they filled the tank?

When the tank is full, it should read "wet". When it's empty, it should read "dry". They tested the sensor to make sure it could make the transition from "wet" to "dry" (since that's the more important transition). The same sensor continued to have problems after they drained the tank, so hopefully that will make it easier to find the problem. (Erratic problems are a pain to fix.)

Just tell them the gremlins were chewing on the lines again, but you're sending out the hunting party to take care of the problem.
