Scary Drug Reactions

Okay, so another painkiller got pulled from the market today. That's not news, so much, since presciption NSAIDs have been under close scrutiny for a while. The thing that scared me, though, was the "potentially fatal skin reactions" that appear to be unique to this particular drug. What?!? Dying from a skin reaction is like dying from a foot injury - it may be possible, but it ain't gonna to be pretty.

I had a bad reaction to pseudoephedra this week. A single dose (Tylenol allergy) messed me up for two days. On the first day, it dried out my mouth (I was drinking a liter of water every 30 minutes and it wasn't helping), made me light headed and made it difficult for me to focus. The second day I had a wicked headache and some pain in my thyroids...

Today I seem to be doing much better.

Tylenol does that to me, too (well, maybe not the headache thing, though I do seem to have strange, random, localized pains the day after taking it, as if my body is making sure my pain receptors still work after the Tylonel wears off). That whole light-headed, lack of focus feel is one of the few things that will even remotely help me sleep. But I try to limit myself to taking it once or twice a month, and only when I'm actually in pain (not just for sleep). Tylonel can do nasty things to your liver and kidneys, so you don't want to mess with it.
